At the Metamora Old Time Music Festival last September, I had the privilege of playing with two exceptional musicians, Ted Yoder and Brian Keith Wallen.
Ted Yoder is an immensely talented musician. He plays his dulcimer almost like a piano, unafraid to tackle complex rhythms and unusual harmonics. Ted is the 2010 National Hammered Dulcimer Champion, and been featured on the Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour. He has performed at the Gaither Fall Festival, and has released three CDs.
Brian Keith Wallen is an incredibly accomplished 19 year old. He has released 16 CDs, and performed at venues like Dollywood and the Ryman Auditorium. He is the Cincy Blues Champion, and was just named the 2011 Blues Artist of the Year.
Together, Ted and Brian are like the Reese’s Cup of acoustic music: two great tastes that go great together.
Me? I’m the 2010 Indiana thumbpick guitar champion, but I get in between these two guys and think, “What in the world am I doing here?” Still, it’s an honor and a whole lot of fun to get together with Brian and Ted along with dobro player extraordinaire Marty Price and be part of The Champions Tour.
We will be kicking it off this Saturday at Noble Coffee and Tea in Noblesville, Ind. The show starts at 6:00 p.m., and we’re looking forward to playing several shows together. Check back on the site or watch for emails to find out about future Champions Tour dates.
